Life is available only in the present. That is why we should walk in such a way that every step can bring us to the here and the now.
It's simply a national acknowledgement that in any kind of priority, the needs of human beings must come first. Poverty is here and now. Hunger is here and now. Racial tension is here and now. Pollution is here and now. These are the things that scream for a response. And if we don't listen to that scream — and if we don't respond to it — we may well wind up sitting amidst our own rubble, looking for the truck that hit us — or the bomb that pulverized us. Get the license number of whatever it was that destroyed the dream. And I think we will find that the vehicle was registered in our own name.
Long nights the now declining year bestows;
A part we consecrate to soft repose,
A part in pleasing talk we entertain;
For too much rest itself becomes a pain.

Bringing people into the here-and-now. The real universe. That's the present moment. The past is no good to us. The future is full of anxiety. Only the present is real—the here-and-now. Seize the day.
Like an audience entertained by a magician, we allow ourselves to be deceived by those with a stake in persuading us to ignore reality.
This day showed us that we are all completely voyeurs greedy for thrilling entertainment no matter if this is real or not.
Remember, most of us got something for nothing the first time just by showing up here at birth. Now we have to qualify.

We do not need to eat animals, wear animals, or use animals for entertainment purposes, and our only defense of these uses is our pleasure, amusement, and convenience.
