Today was very sad,
and even if tomorrow, I cry,
someday I will be able to laugh
and remember our time together.
How many seasons must pass,
in this, our finite existence?
If we live in the "now",
what will we find?
I realized it for the first time in my life: there is nothing but mystery in the world, how it hides behind the fabric of our poor, browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don't even know it.
I realized what a ridiculous lie my whole life has been.
I was enormously impressed by Jackson Pollock and Lucio Fontana…. the sheer brazenness of it! That really fascinated me and impressed me. I might almost say that those paintings were the real reason I left the GDR [ German Democratic Republic ]. I realized that something was wrong with my whole way of thinking… I lived my life with a group of people who laid claim to a moral aspiration, who wanted to bridge a gap… And so the way we thought, and what we wanted for our own art, was all about compromise.
Try and penetrate with our limited means the secrets of nature and you will find that, behind all the discernible concatenations, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion. To that extent I am, in point of fact, religious.
There is one kind of judge. There is an independent judge under our Constitution. And the fact that they may have been a Republican or Democrat or an independent in a past life is completely irrelevant to how they conduct themselves as judges. And I think two centuries of experience has shown us that that ideal which the Founders established can be realized and has been realized and will continue to be realized.
I used to care about how other people thought I led my life. But lately I've realized that most people are too preoccupied with their own lives to give anybody else even the scantiest of thoughts.
I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters and that it sis my duty… This is my highest and best use as a human.
At some point in my life I realized I knew only celebrities, I didn't know any real people.
I always try to use new media for the gallery, but I realize that pixels and mosaics are mainly my signature.
